CAROLINA RANGER (2024)
PHOTOGRAPHED BY AMADEUS PURCELL
“This ain’t Texas, this is North Carolina.” In my series “Carolina Ranger,” I channel the spirit of the rural South through a striking set of studio portraits. These images focus on the poise and distinction of a single Black man dressed in Southern cowboy attire. Drawing from my childhood experiences in Reidsville, NC, I capture his essence with vivid imagination. The ranger, a guardian of the countryside, symbolizes the Black men who are pillars of protection and guidance in the rural South.
