BEAUTY: AN ACT OF RESISTANCE (2023)

Exploring beauty in today’s world as an act of resistance, this series draws inspiration from bell hooks’ philosophy in her book Art on My Mind: Visual Politics (hooks, 1995). Using fewer materials to capture the raw essence and beauty, this work aligns with hooks’ idea that “Learning to see and appreciate the presence of beauty is an act of resistance in a culture of domination that recognizes the production of a pervasive feeling of lack, both material and spiritual, as a useful colonizing strategy.” This series challenges cultural narratives and celebrates the power of recognizing beauty amidst oppression.
